general conference weekend

this weekend marked the first (of two) general conferences this year held by the lds church. in idaho (and most other states) it's televised so this means we get to enjoy church from the comfort of our own home.

on saturday they held two session and then that evening kevin, staci's friend kyle, my dad, and three brothers meet at my dad's stake center for the priesthood session. after the priesthood session we meet the guys at olive garden for some delicious dinner. we had a great night out with no kids thanks to staci and kyle for babysitting our little guys.

on sunday they held two more sessions which we also watched from home. staci and kyle joined us for some yummy waffles with strawberries and whip cream for breakfast and than later we had some italian roastbeef on french bread for lunch.

watching general conference is always something i look forward to. but, trying to watch four hours of church with two little boys is not all it's cracked up to be. it's so hard to keep your mind focused and to hear all the great messages. so, THANK GOODNESS for DVR's! i can't wait to re-watch conference over the course of this month during nap times and take it all in!

the bits and pieces i did catch were all encouraging, thought-provoking, and spiritually pleasing. the solemn assembly was amazing to watch (when the church sustained the new prophet, first presidency, and twelve apostles)! and i was touched by russel m. nelson's words about teaching our children and m. russell ballard's on the role of a mother.

Yes it was a nice weekend. I especially enjoyed the talk about mothers. And I loved hearing President Monson at the very end talk about mundane facts of life, like taxes. That was refreshing to me.
