memorial day in malad

of course we were in malad, id for memorial day! ;)

the weather was great and we arrived just in time for the program at the malad cemetery. this year i really enjoyed the program. they had a local teacher speak about abraham lincoln and the gettysburg address. she did such a fantastic job! and then she likened it to those buried in the malad cemetery and it was very touching.

they also had a man there to sing all of the military call songs (i'm not sure if that is the right word or not) and as each one was sung (air force, marines, army, navy) anyone who had served was asked to stand and salute. it was very fun to hear each of these songs and even better to honor those in the crowd who have served. i quite enjoyed it.

and our favorite part was the gun salute. always a treat!

and my boys were able to grab a couple bullet casing. the highlight of the trip!

we didn't have the best manwaring showing this year. but, there were quite a few harding families represented.

dad, wes, collin, maddy, owen, mom

emily, me, dad, mom, nat

emily, me, nat, grandma freidenberger, mom, kayla

showing off their treasure.

mom brought some penny candies so we were able to carry on her childhood tradition of begging a quarter off a "rich uncle" and filling a bag full of penny candies.

thanks for the fun!

Thanks for the post and the pics. It always feels so strange to me to not be in Malad for Memorial Day. Maybe next year!
